Undefeated Softball Tigers Take Home Championship Title

The Bay Ridge Prep Varsity Softball Tigers capped off an undefeated season with a win in the ISAL Championship Game, taking home the softball league title for the third time in school history. A 21-9 win over LREI on May 11 propelled the Tigers toward victory and an incredible end to an amazing season.

This year’s softball team included Amelia Block ‘22, Alexandra Conaboy ‘22, Sienna Cruz '23, Cara Ann Insley ‘24, Kathryn Lynch ‘23, Samantha Norman ‘25, Tulsi Perun ‘22, Selina Psarras ‘26, Briana Raineri ‘24, Sophia Saadi ‘26, Priscilla Sideris ‘22 and Phoenix Ward ‘26.

Softball coaches Ember Chabot, Gina Marshall and Deb Brown pointed out that this year’s team had the unprecedented challenge of coming back after missing one full season in 2020 and then playing a modified season in 2021.

“In some ways, this may have energized the players and led to the incredible team chemistry that they developed throughout this season,” the coaches said in a statement. “This is a group of fantastic teammates that brought out the best in one another - picking each other up and encouraging their competitive sides while always maintaining a great sense of sportsmanship. Combining that energy with the natural athleticism this squad possesses, we were unstoppable.”

While the undefeated championship season feels amazing for the team, their coaches believe that the fun and the friendships will be the biggest takeaway for the players, especially the seniors who have been with the team since their rookie season.

“As a coaching staff,” they added, “we are delighted this was how they ended their final season at Bay Ridge Prep.”

The Tigers last brought home varsity softball championships in 2016 and 2017. A new banner will be added to the school’s gyms this fall to acknowledge the 2022 softball champs.
