The furry and feathered denizens of Paris were on stage December 12 in the fifth grade production of "The Aristocats"! Pulling together this year's fifth grade performance involved collaboration among students across different grade levels and divisions. The memorable evening was reinforced by the singing and dancing talents of the sixth grade chorus. Because of the unique character requirements of "The Aristocats", eighth grade theater students completed a month-long unit in stage make-up in preparation for their final project: designing the make-up for the show’s cat, dog, mouse and aged characters.
The annual fifth grade show is always a highlight of Bay Ridge Prep's theater season and one in which the entire team of Lower and Middle School teaching artists work together. Danielle Starapoli created the purrfect choreography for the dancing cats, Scott Tofte served as music director, and scenery and props were provided by Marjorie Vera, Robin Reczek and Deb Brown. Patti Veconi directed and created the show’s costumes.
The talented and joyful cast of "The Aristocats" enjoyed two sold-out performances with lively talk-back sessions following each of them.
