Senior Brings Home Tennis State Championship Title

Bay Ridge Prep is home to its first ever state championship title, thanks to Dylan Friedman '18 who won the New York State Association of Independent School Singles Tennis tournament on Sunday, May 20. The historic win came after third-seed Friedman defeated the top-seeded player in straight sets (6-4, 7-6). To make it to the championship round, Friedman first won the quarterfinal in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) against the sixth-seed player and went on to win a very exciting semifinal match that went for three sets (7-5, 3-6, 10-3).

"I couldn't have done this without all the support behind me," Friedman said after winning the state title. "I always had the belief that I could bring it home, but it still feels surreal to bring the first state championship to the school."

The 6'5" elite tennis player went on to credit his opponent in the championship match, saying, "his forehand was keeping me off balance."

Friedman has signed with Binghamton University to play Division I tennis in college.
