Head of School Dr. Charles Fasano sent the following note to the school community on Tuesday, October 12, shortly after announcing to Upper School faculty and staff that Dr. John Kugler and Dr. Chris Nuesell were appointed Upper School Co-Directors.
Dear Bay Ridge Prep Community,
I am pleased to announce that Dr. John Kugler and Dr. Chris Nuesell have both been named to the position of Upper School Co-Director. For many Upper School community members, this news likely comes with little surprise as Chris and John have worked in multiple administrative, teaching and counseling roles at Bay Ridge Prep and have been a critical part of the school. They have been with our community for two decades and I am excited to continue working with them as we lead the Upper School and its incredible team of faculty and staff.
John joined Bay Ridge Prep in 2000, first as the Middle School Bridge Program Director and then, for the last nine years, as Upper School Bridge Program Director. He has worked in the field of education for over 35 years with a primary focus on individuals with learning differences. Prior to Bay Ridge Prep, he held positions as the Director of the School Consultation Center at Fordham University and the Director of Education at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital Learning Center. He worked as a school psychologist with the New York City Department of Education and has been an adjunct faculty member at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education, New York University and the University of Hawaii in Manoa. He earned both a masters and doctoral degree from Fordham.
Chris has been with Bay Ridge Prep since 2001, initially serving as the Upper School Bridge Program Director and then as the Director of Guidance. He has over 35 years of experience teaching at the K-12 and collegiate levels. Prior to Bay Ridge Prep, he served as Senior Psychologist in the Department of Pediatrics at Coney Island Hospital and taught at several high schools and colleges, including being an adjunct professor at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education. As a psychologist, he had a private practice on Staten Island for almost twenty years. He is a graduate of New York University and earned his doctoral degree from Fordham.
As John and Chris both add the title of Upper School Co-Director to their long history of service to our school, they will hold on to their current responsibilities for the time being. John will continue to focus on overseeing the Upper School’s support programs while Chris will continue overseeing the college guidance program and mainstream programming.
Please join me in congratulating Chris Nuesell and John Kugler and wishing them both the best as they work together leading our Upper School and continuing their service to the Bay Ridge Prep community.
Dr. Charles Fasano
