Four Seniors Earn Tiger Awards

Charlotte Brown, Moses Millman, Marcell Saucedo-Elcock, and Jessie Zuckerman are the newest members of the Bay Ridge Prep Tiger Club. Inductees to the Tiger Club are graduating seniors who, according to the inscription on the Tiger Award, display "positive character, sportsmanship, team leadership, school spirit" and are "one of the most quintessential student-athletes to grace the classrooms, courts, and fields of Bay Ridge Preparatory School."

The announcement was made on May 22 during the 2020 Upper School Sports Awards Ceremony, held virtually this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking about the latest group of Tiger Award winners, Athletics Director Francesco Ingrati said Saucedo-Elcock will go out of his way to work with other members of the basketball team. "If there is a new player on the team that might be struggling with a play," Ingrati said of the Varsity Boys Basketball Captain, "he'll pull them aside and work with them... and it's not only to better the team, but it's to better that player individually." Saucedo-Elcock heads to the North Shore of Long Island next as an undergraduate student at Stony Brook University.

Zuckerman is a student who "really defines what it means to be a student-athlete," Ingrati said. In addition to maintaining a high GPA, she played a sport each season of her high school career as part of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams. After graduation, she will continue her studies in the southwest at the University of Arizona.

Brown, a Varsity Softball Captain, was honored for not only being a student-athlete but being part of the school's theater program and what Ingrati called "a leader by example" and someone who can dominate any position she plays on the softball field. Also an avid baker, she will attend the Culinary Institute of America in fall.

When Ingrati asked Millman his favorite memory of being a student-athlete, the Varsity Soccer Captain responded, "watching the new players on the soccer team score their first goal and seeing how happy they are." Ingrati lauded him as a person who gets joy from seeing other people succeed and also as a student who has committed countless hours to increasing school spirit at Bay Ridge Prep. Millman will attend Clark University in Worcester, MA, in fall.

During the virtual awards show, coaches for fall and winter teams gave Momentum, Spirit and MVP awards to individual payers on each team. Spring teams, which had their seasons cut short once the school suspended in-person instruction and activities on March 12, were honored with speeches from their coaches about the student-athletes' resilience, tenacity and camaraderie.
