December 2021 Sports Update

Indoor Track
At the first indoor track meeting in the Ivy league, the Varsity Indoor Track team showed that they are ready to compete this year. Sophia Saadi '26 came in first place in both the 300m and the 55m dash in her heat while Matthew Betro '24 also took first place in the 55m dash in his heat. His brother Andrew Betro '24 also took second place and teammate Nico Bermudez '25 took third!

Upper School Basketball
This is the first time since 2020 that our Varsity Boys, JV Boys and Varsity Girls basketball teams have touched the court and they are off to a great start! Varsity Boys Basketball is currently 2-2 in the ISAL and the team is a contender to make this year's league playoffs. Varsity Girls Basketball had an exciting start to the season as well. Hailey Parcell '26 scored a 3-point buzzer beater to beat Brooklyn Friends School in their league opener. Oliver Berman '21, a member of Varsity Boys team, described the Varsity Girls game against Brooklyn Friends as "one of the most intense games I've ever seen". On the Junior Varsity side, the team is showing spirit and perseverance and has the advantage of point guard Ryder Nuesell '24 leading the way on the court.

Boys Middle School Basketball
Middle Basketball Basketball begins league play later this winter but participated in a scrimmage last week against Poly Prep. Based on the amount of determination displayed against Poly' Blue Devils, the Bay Ridge Prep Tigers proved that they have the will power and dedication to have a strong showing in this year's ISAL Middle School division.
