Cross Country Tigers Finish Season with Big Wins

Bay Ridge Prep’s Cross Country team finished the season with tremendous wins for both the Middle School and Upper School teams.

On October 23, the Tigers hosted the annual Shore Road Track Invitational for Grades 5-8. Competing this year were runners from Bay Ridge Prep, Packer, Windward, Berkeley Carroll, Friends Seminary and St. Ann’s. In total, 81 students from six independent schools ran, with the Bay Ridge Prep Tigers placing first in three of the four divisions. 

In the Grade 5 & 6 Girls Division, Sophia Saadi ‘26 finished first out of 28 runners; in the Grade 5 & 6 Boys Division, Joseph Bane ‘26 finished first out of 32 runners; and in the Grade 7 & 8 Boys Division, Matthew Betro ‘24 finished first out of 19 runners. 

After finishing first in his division in the Shore Road Invitational, Matthew Betro then competed the following day on October 24 and again placed first among middle school boys, this time in the ISAL Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. 

Also placing in the ISAL Championship was Gregory Kuznetsov ‘21 came in second out of 57 runners in the Varsity Boys division and ran his best time ever (19:44) for a 5K race. Fellow Tiger Alan Mandaloui ‘23, who is just a freshman runner, came in with the top 15 group of competitors.
