Science Teacher (Upper School)

About the position:

Bay Ridge Prep seeks a talented science teacher to join our Upper School Science Department. The ideal candidate will be able to teach Biology and Earth Science at the New York State Regents level and will teach additional science courses such as Chemistry on an as needed basis. The ideal candidate should enjoy working collaboratively with fellow teachers both within the science department, across our three academic programs and across the school at large.

Requirements:

  • Master's or advanced degree in science, science education or special education strongly preferred.

  • Previous experience working with and sensitivity to students with learning differences a plus.

  • Commitment to the social, emotional and cognitive needs of all students

  • Strong collaborative working skills with fellow teachers within and across disciplines

  • Previous teaching experience in an independent/private school setting preferred

Lower School Assistant Teacher

About the position:

Primary Purpose: Assisting Head Teachers in an elementary setting to meet the educational, emotional, and social needs of children.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the teacher to facilitate activities for all children both indoors and outdoors;

  • Exhibits a genuine nurturing, caring attitude to all children.

  • Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a soft voice

  • Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, volunteers, parents, and program specialists in planning and implementing activities.

  • Assists teacher to implement the developmental assessment for each child to determine the child’s strengths and areas in which each child may need help.

  • Plans with and assists the teacher in preparing materials and supplies in advance for activities.

  • Becomes familiar with the teacher’s written lesson plans, the daily schedule, methods for recording attendance, and all other daily duties of the teacher.

  • Assumes the teacher’s role in leading selected activities during designated parts of the class-day on a periodic basis for training purposes.

  • Assumes the teacher’s full role in the absence of the teacher.

  • Assists the teacher in safeguarding all classroom supplies and equipment.

  • Attends all professional development opportunities as provided by Bay Ridge Prep.

  • Performs any other task deemed necessary by the teacher and/or administration.

Learning Specialist (Upper School)

About the position:
For our Upper School Bridge Program, Bay Ridge Prep seeks an experienced educator to work as a learning specialist for students with learning difficulties who are preparing for college. The students’ learning needs may include language processing difficulties, specific learning disabilities, executive function deficits, or other specific cognitive issues that can impact learning.

Specific activities of this position will include:

  • Review relevant data and create specific goals based on each student’s unique reading and writing strengths and needs in consultation with the Bridge Program Director.

  • Teach small groups of students both basic and more advanced reading and writing skills.

  • Provide direct instruction to improve executive function skills in small groups in a mentoring class.

  • Teach specific cognitive strategies and coordinate with other teachers to help these skills generalize.

  • Engage in more intensive individual sessions with select students as needed.

  • Assess the effectiveness of the interventions through regular progress monitoring.

  • Write progress reports and participate in annual CSE reviews with the Department of Education.

  • Participate in weekly meetings regarding students in the Bridge Program as well as faculty meetings.

  • Serve as a mentor to select students in the program.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree

  • Valid NYS certification in Special Education (Grades 7-12) or related field, or be eligible for such certification.

  • Training in and experience with research-based strategies and interventions for reading and writing skills including, but not limited to, reading interventions such as Wilson, Orton-Gillingham or PAF, to name a few.

  • Understanding of the needs of students with learning difficulties.

  • Knowledge of and experience with cognitive strategy instruction is a plus.

  • Classroom teaching experience that includes work with students with learning difficulties.

  • Candidates should be familiar with Common Core Learning Standards

  • Solid classroom management techniques

Speech Language Pathologist (Upper School)

Bay Ridge Prep currently seeks a full time Speech Pathologist, preferably with teaching experience, to provide identification and assessment of at risk students; comprehensive speech, language, and literacy assessment and interpretation; report writing and participation in CSE student annual review meetings; individual and small group therapeutic remediation, as well as classroom intervention and teaching services to students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language and literacy.

Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the Bay Ridge Prep Language and Literacy department works directly with a multidisciplinary professional faculty, which includes Ph.D. School and Neuropsychologists, Language Literacy Specialists, Special Educators, Learning Disability Specialists, and Speech Language Pathologists. This highly experienced and talented team is dedicated to working together to support the unique learning styles and social / emotional development of these students.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree
  • CCC in Speech Language Pathology with TSSLD certification
  • Experience teaching literacy and the language arts
  • Willingness and ability to work with children ages 4-18
  • Desire to become a full and contributing member of the school community, including working with children in co-curricular and / or extra curricular activities
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written).

About the positions:
Bay Ridge Prep Athletics seeks talented and organized individuals to serve as coaches and assistant coaches during the 2018-2019 school year. The following opportunities are available:

  • Varsity Boys Basketball; Assistant Coach (November - February)

  • Varsity Boys Baseball; Head Coach (March - May)

  • Varsity Boys Baseball; Assistant Coach Coach (March - May)

  • Varsity Girls Tennis; Assistant Coach (September - October & March - May)

  • Varsity Boys Tennis; Assistant Coach (March - May)


In general, coaches must be available 4 - 5 days during the school week, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., to run practices, coach games and travel to/from games with students. Some games will require work beyond 6 p.m. due to travel.


Requirements:

  • Previous coaching experience, preferably in an independent or private school setting

  • CPR, First Aid, AED and Concussion Management certified

  • Ability to maintain a positive environment for students and other community members

  • Commitment to Bay Ridge Prep’s student-centered philosophy

  • Flexibility to work around the schedules of students with many interests

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate with fellow coaches and other school staff

  • Commitment to the social, emotional and cognitive needs of all students
