Like many Americans, our hearts have been heavy all weekend as we continue to keep our thoughts and prayers with the Sandy Hook Elementary School community and the residents of Newtown, Connecticut.  It is tough to talk about situations like what happened Friday morning and even more difficult when having to explain these tragedies to young people.  We have provided our faculty with resources should the topic be brought up by students in school this coming week.  Students will often seek to process within their peer group tragedies such as these. You may also find yourself in the position of having to discuss this with your child(ren). To help our parent community, we are sharing with you the following links provided by the National Association of Independent Schools.  While these resources will never give us an answer as to why people decide to carry out horrible acts of violence, they will give adults some guidance on how to approach the subject with children.


Finally, if you have not done so yet, we hope you plan to spend some quality time with your family over the coming weeks.  Give your children an extra hug and let them know again how much you love them.

Bay Ridge Prep's Senior Class hosted movie night on Thursday, November 15, to help support the school's Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts.  The night was a huge success and raised approximately $3,800 for the relief fund. 

The Class of 2013 sent the following letter to the school community thanking everyone for their support:

Thank you to everyone who came to last Thursday's Movie Night at Bay Ridge Prep!  So many students, parents, and friends of our school enjoyed the screenings of Madagascar 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man.  So far, we raised approximately $3,800 for our school's Hurricane Sandy relief efforts! 

We would like to thank Rooftop Films for allowing us to use their 20-foot big screen, projector and sound system for our event.  Another big thank you to Butter Beans for providing popcorn to our audience and also to Paneantico Bakery & Cafe as well as Carousel Beverages for donating food and drink supplies to our concession stands. 

Finally, a huge thanks to all the teachers, facilities staff, parents and students throughout the entire school who helped us sell tickets, converted our gym into a movie theater, donated items, and plan things out. Their help combined with your support made the night a complete success!
