Campus Life
Visitors to Bay Ridge Prep will notice one thing immediately: the family-like feeling of the school and the beautiful neighborhood that we call home. Whether it's the 74th Street Building with its old world charm and woodwork, or the 81st Street Building with its bright, colorful classrooms and play areas, you are always in a warm and welcoming environment.
Students often arrive early to share breakfast and social time with their classmates. Lower and Middle School students can purchase a nutritious food right inside school at any time throughout the day. Fresh bagels from Bagel Boy, fruit and yogurt are some of the favorite snacks. High School students often meet at a local diner or coffee shop before coming in for first period classes.
At lunch time in the Lower School, all students eat with their teachers. We believe that teachers are an integral part of not only the academic, but also the social and emotional lives of our students, and lunch is an important bonding time. From 6th to 9th grade, students begin acquiring privileges like dining out, and on any given day you may see them swarming the local pizza parlor or sald and wraps restaurant. Teachers take turns accompanying classes, since both teachers and students value this time together outside the classroom. Students in grades 10 - 12 can bring their own lunch or go out on their own to one of the many local eateries along Third and Fifth Avenues and the nearby 86th Street shopping district.
Bay Ridge Prep students also enjoy rich extra-curricular lives and are provided with many opportunities for enrichment. In school and in our After School programs, there are numerous options to explore, ranging from athletics to participation in the various arts. Students also mentor each other, create clubs, and volunteer in younger classrooms or in the surrounding community. All of these activities help Bay Ridge Prep develop the whole student.
