A group of Upper School students found themselves among world leaders during a recent trip to the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan. Students in the Contemporary World History course toured the UN and saw the Security Council, General Assembly and an Economic and Social Council meeting in session. Prior to the trip, students read transcripts of President Trump's recent speech at the UN and explored the sustainable mission and goals of the UN.
The course, taught by Mr. Daniel Greene and Mr. Dean Bevilacqua, is designed to address several recurring issues such as political affiliations, the art of rhetoric, terrorism, Just War Theory, human rights, trafficking, the positives and shortcomings of humanitarian aid, and the rise of and current states of global conflicts and crises.
Later this year, students in the course will conduct a model diplomacy simulation that resembles the president's National Security Council and will discuss the process by which international diplomats come together to discuss the most challenging global issues of our day.
