We'll Take Two! The varsity softball team poses for a photo along with team managers and coaches just moments after winning their second straight championship.
The Bay Ridge Prep Varsity Softball Tigers have earned the title of back-to-champs after bringing home the ISAL softball championship crown for the second consecutive year. A resounding 13-3 win over LREI on May 10 propelled the Tigers toward victory while also forcing an early end to play at Randall's Island due to the mercy rule.
“I am so proud of the way our team played, not just today but all year,” Head Softball Coach Mr. Anthony Bernard said shortly after the game. “Since the start of the season, the students kept improving with each game that passed. They saw it in themselves, the coaches saw it and it all culminated in today’s win.
”Mr. Bernard also credited every member of the softball squad for making big plays during both the semi-final and championship games. Each of those plays, he said, were crucial for the Tigers to clinch a second championship title.
The 2016 and 2017 Varsity Softball Tigers join their Varsity Baseball counterparts from the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the only teams in school history to win back-to-back championship games in their league.
“This is a major step forward not only for our team but also for female sports at our school and for the entire Bay Ridge Prep community,” Mr. Bernard added.
A banner acknowledging the historic win will be unveiled in both the 74th Street and 81st Street gyms this fall.
