Daniel Stekol '17 will graduate with achievements in two prestigious national programs.
Daniel Stekol '17 has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. He is one of just 15,000 high school seniors across the country to be named a finalist in the prestigious program. He is also a candidate for the 2017 United States Presidential Scholars Program. Just 4,000 students out of nearly 3.5 million high school seniors graduating this year receive an invitation to the program sponsored by White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the United States Department of Education.
A Bay Ridge Prep student since second grade, Stekol said he is “very grateful” for the support he has received from the school community.
“I've always been able to work with the teachers and administrators to help me achieve my goals, extend my knowledge and challenge myself,” he said. “The teachers are extremely dedicated to each of their students, and both the staff and the students are friendly.”
While he will have to wait until spring to hear more about both the National Merit Scholarship and the Presidential Scholars Program, Stekol already knows what he wants to do once he starts college in fall.
“I'm thinking of studying robotics and artificial intelligence, because I think technology is moving strongly in that direction and because I just think it's interesting,” he said.
Natalia Stekol, Daniel’s mother, credited Bay Ridge Prep’s faculty and staff with being part of his achievements.
“Thank you for your extraordinary work and support,” she said, “and for creating a place where Daniel is happy and eager to study.”
Founded in 1998, Bay Ridge Prep is an independent, K-12 college preparatory school offering intelligent and compassionate education in a progressive academic environment.
