Athletics Director

NBA champion Tony Campbell became Director of Athletics for Bay Ridge Prep in September 2007.  Coach Campbell, who has held positions on the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers, puts his professional athletics experience to work coaching and advising students.

In just his first year as Director of Athletics, Coach Campbell dramatically expanded the school's basketball program and led the Varsity Baseball team to capture the title of 2008 Division II Regular Season Champions.  In 2014, he led the Varsity Baseball Tigers through an unprecedented undefeated championship season followed by another championship season in 2015. During the 2015-2016 basketball season, Coach Campbell led the Varsity Boys Basketball Tigers toward earning a seed in the NYSAIS State Championship Tournament for the first time in Bay Ridge Prep history.

A native of Teaneck, New Jersey, Campbell attended Ohio State University before entering the 1984 NBA draft. He was selected 20th overall in the draft and was the first round draft pick of the Detroit Pistons. After three seasons with the Pistons, he was signed as a free agent to the Los Angeles Lakers and played alongside the likes of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. During the 1987-1988 season, he played an integral role in helping the Lakers become NBA champions. Campbell played for the Lakers for two seasons under the leadership of legendary NBA coach Pat Riley and was then signed as a free agent by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 1989 expansion year. In the three years he played with the Timberwolves, he set the franchise's original all-time scoring record of 4,888 points. After the Timberwolves, Campbell went on to play for the New York Knicks as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers before retiring from the NBA after the 1994-1995 season.

In addition to being a Registered Athletic Administrator, Cambell holds an undergraduate degree from Farleigh Dickinson University and a Masters degree from the University of Phoenix.

About Us

Bay Ridge Prep is a co-ed, K-12 independent school in Brooklyn, New York, that is home to 390 students and over 100 faculty spread across two buildings.  With a student-centered environment and fresh approach to education, Bay Ridge Prep provides an enriching academic experience in a socially mature environment.

Bay Ridge Prep is selective in admissions and prospective students go through a formal application process.  What we look for most in an applicant is a student who will benefit from our programs and make a positive impact on our community.

Bay Ridge Prep students get their first taste of hands-on learning in Kindergarten, when they become owners and operators of their own bakery.  By high school, they are deeply engaged in courses like Science, Research & Design - a three-year class that offers the opportunity to conduct original, independent research.

Led by experienced arts educators with advanced degrees in art, music and theater, the arts program recognizes that creative expression is a vital and integral part of a student’s development.

Home to nine championships in the last seven years, Bay Ridge Prep Athletics offers students an opportunity to explore physical challenges and develop leadership and teamwork skills.

Student Life

Giving to Bay Ridge Prep has a profound impact on the daily lives of our students and helps give the school's administration the flexibility and financial resources to address spontaneous needs in and out of the classroom such as undertaking new programs and facility upgrades.
