As part of the Bay Ridge Preparatory School's philosophy of encouraging students to pursue the responsibilities of being citizens of local, national and global communities, students have become the driving force behind many of the charitable events that take place inside the school during fall and winter.
In October, High School students raised money for the American Cancer Society and participated in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event at Brooklyn's Prospect Park.
Throughout the months of November and December, students also wrote letters to members of America's armed forces serving overseas during the holiday season. The letters to the troops were sent to Operation Gratitude, a non-profit organization that arranges for care packages to be sent to members of the military serving overseas. In addition to sending letters, Bay Ridge Prep donated all of its leftover candy from its Halloween festivities to Operation Gratitude. The organization sends the candy to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan who, in turn, give the candy to children in those countries who then offer information on locations of roadblocks, IEDs and other hazards created by insurgents.

Most recently, students organized a canned food drive to deliver much needed items to local food pantries and there are plans to begin a winter coat drive in January.
